WINNER: Denton Black Film Festival - Best Texas Short Narrative (Runner Up)

Our short film, Opening Up, continued its festival run in January 2025 at the Denton Black Film Festival The film was also honored as runner up in the Best Texas Short Narrative category.

In its 11th year, the Denton Black Film Festival is the largest Black film festival in Texas and the Southwest, founded in 2015 by Harry Eaddy and the Denton African American Scholarship Foundation to give Black stories an audience and Black creatives a platform. What began as a day-and-a-half cinema event drawing more than 800 people has grown into a multi-day celebration of film, art, music, and spoken word and has cemented itself as a vital cultural institution in the North Texas region and beyond.

Opening Up centers on the night a new member of an evening support group puts everyone on edge by arriving in a protective radiation suit.

The film was written and directed by Nice Egg co-founder Paris Brown, produced by co-founder Heather McKinney, and stars a cast of incredibly talented actors from the Dallas area. Full cast is available here.

Congratulations to the cast and crew on the honor!
